There was plenty of Go Pro filming on the way down so someone must have a good video of the tunnel. I think we're all waiting for the edit!

It was also good to put some faces to the names I see on here.

Hope everyone had a great day, see you next year.  Although my buggy did struggle a little to get back, think it may be running on three cylinders, possible HT leads!

Here is my contribution.

I was standing on the bridge at Thursley on the A3 with my family (and my buggy) watching the cruise go past.  I filmed it on my camera that was zoomed in so the quality isn't great.

I caught up with the cruise at the fuel station at Liphook and it was an awesome cruise down, especially through Portsmouth.

The show was really good, the weather was great and I even had a paddle in the see with my daughter!

Brilliant day had all round.

Afternoon Chaps

Looks like you'll all be passing by my little village (Thursley) around 10 as I live just before the Hindhead Tunnel.  I'll try and get on the access bridge and get a video of you all as you pass by, then hopefully join the cruise down.

Should be an awesome sight!

How about Landrovers lights?

I've got the NAS spec ones which are 95mm but standard light are 73mm and available in LED.

I built a little bar out of 1" tube which attaches to the now redundant heater tubes from the exhaust. I've got two of those LED bolts and it all works well. Should be able to make it work with your exhaust

Chad - it is indeed no. 19. Just out curiosity what's the best way to attach the badges? Just double sided tape?

For reflectors, I've seen the hand shaped ones which look fun, but I'm going to try and keep it quite clean so found some with brackets that will attach to the return lip and hang down, otherwise I'll just get some self adhesive ones.

As for the battery, I used some flat plate and then used threaded rod to hold the plate across the battery, kind of like the Land Rover Discovery. Seems to work pretty well.

Well it passed, just! Need to get some reflectors for the rear as my LED lights don't have any. The axle tube was leaking so the brake was a bit lazy and handbrake only just passed! Axle tube is sorted and all brakes are cleaned just need some reflectors, eBay I think.

Drove down to Portsmouth for its maiden voyage, unfortunately the rocker cover gasket sprung a leak, luckily the RAC managed to sort it with some sealant. So made it to Portsmouth and drove back this morning with no issues.

So a few more tweaks are required, but that is to be expected.

Well here she is, all ready for her MOT tomorrow.

Still need to sort out the stance, possibly with some new tyres.  Fuel Gauge isn't working properly, and the ride is a little rigid, so need to tweak that.

Well, after nearly 9 years of building, my Doon Buggy is insured and ready for its MOT which is booked for Friday afternoon.

Massive thanks to Chad for all is help and to anyone else who has posted on my questions.

I'll be getting it out the garage before Friday so I'll try and post some pictures.

Thanks again.

Beach Buggy Electrical Help / Horn wiring!
« on: April 20, 2014, 12:04:49 PM »
Happy Easter everyone, hope you're enjoying the bank holiday.

I'm trying the wire up the horn on my buggy. I know the horn works because I have a green wire coming from it that I keep touching against anything metal (earthed) and it goes off.

The steering column is already earthed because it is attached to the steering support bar which is the main earth for the front of the buggy.

The question is, how do I get the the live wire up the column to attach to the horn push. I'm using a steering boss for a momo steering wheel.

I'm don't think I'm over complicating this and I know the setup is the opposite to how VW intended. There is a wire for the horn on the plug on the steering column but I don't think this will help.

I'd rather use the horn push on the steering wheel rather than set one up on the dash.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi all.

I'm trying to set up my twin weber ICTs. The engine runs but not as smooth as I'd like.

Has anyone on here got a vacuum gauge for setting them up that they would be willing to lend me or possibly come give me a hand to sort them? I know i can pick them up for about 30, but I'll probably only use them once.

I'm in Thursley, near Guildford if anyone is interested.

I thought about those rubber straps but I have a cut off switch under the bonnet so don't want to keep having to undo those every time I park up.

I'm in Surrey, so if there are any Doon owners nearby let me know.

Hi all

Hope everyone is getting on with those winter jobs on those buggies.

My Doon is nearing completion.  There is one thing that I am struggling to sort out and that is the bonnet latch.  The Doon has an opening bonnet so I need to sort out a latch/catch and release mechanism.  I'd like to use a cable release like a beetle but not sure which catch to use.  Lee at Volksmagic suggested using a Corrado catch but they are hard to get hold of, so was thinking about using a golf mechanism top and bottom available from Heritage and fleebay.

Opinions welcome, especially from Doon owners.

Cheers in advance.

Beach Buggy Electrical Help / Re: Rear earth points on a Doon?
« on: July 12, 2013, 03:31:37 PM »
Thanks for all the replies chaps.

I haven't actually earthed my chassis as I was going to earth the gearbox at the back with big earth cable I have in place.  Looks like that will be coming out and being replaced with a small cable, this can then earth the rear of the buggy and the larger cable I'll attach at the front somewhere.  Ideas on where is best? And put in the gearbox strap!

I have spent ages looking for those 6 pin earthing points but can only find a pack of 50, bit excessive as I'll only use two.  This is what i was hoping to use.  So, Chad, if it's okay with you I'll take you up on that offer.  I'll send a PM or email.

Thanks again for all your ideas.
