Beach Buggy General Help / Re: Has my buggy been cloned?

What does it matter where it was registered?

Actually, that can have a big impact on things as back in the day, many of the LVLA centres did their own thing and made up their own rules, which is why it became centralized with everyone following the same rule book.

The light hearted comments show that you have also done your homework to be aware of this  ;)

The Blue Buggy in question has been identified and owners contacted    ;-)up

To save any further problems for them, lets keep the reg and pictures of that one off here for now

I had my reg number 'put on hold' a while ago as someone in Nottingham had applied for a logbook for my buggy/ my reg number. It dragged on for a while and I was getting nowhere with emails etc to DVLA so eventually I just sent a V62 off with all my details on and a cheque and bingo, I got my reg number and V5 in my name back. Money talks, or it did then.

Tempting !!

Indeed -
If you are the legitimate registrant of that number then I cannot see you have anything to lose bar the cost of a cheque and a stamp (always do it by paper, never electronically).

Worst case scenario, you are flagged up and I cannot see how you would be any worse off than you are now   :-\

Sadly, UK is not the place to look for online stuff at the moment, virtually all the traders I know have suspended international shipping until we can fathom out the new customs procedures - with most of HMRC working from home without phone support, I doubt this will be anytime soon, so suggest to look at EU suppliers in the interim

Hi Gary,

Glad you found your way in here  ;-)up

Yes, its quite normal for the Battery to be placed behind the seat (usually drivers side in the UK) - and is the same place that they were originally fitted in the Donor Beetle

Nothing to stop you moving it though, but you may struggle to find a more suitable location   ;-)up

Thanks for the advice, last night's e-mail was just an information one, just to say the registration and when it was first registered, at the moment I am playing dumb,
I have a buggy with
Vin is xxxxxx
Registration is xxx xxx
Built in 1972
Please sir can I have a V5

Ttfn w

Playing "Dumb" is a very good call, but don`t make the assumption that the person on the other end can think outside the box for a solution either.
They have a very strict code of conduct and their limited procedures are hampered by bureaucracy - far easier for them to just say no.

By gently suggesting something, you may trigger a thought of a process that they may actually know how to proceed with in order to help

Thats good news that you have tracked down a reg number, and as you say, could be bad news for someone else.

My experience with the "powers that be" are that you need to be quite firm with them and stand your ground, but it never hurts to also plant a little seed and let them think that "they" found a solution to the problem. Personally, I would also add a small line on my note to say that a registration number has obviously been issued in error by DVLA to someone else, but that you have no issues with a new registration number being issued rather than trying to retain the old one. They are inundated at the moment and may even see this as a quick and easy way out.
