Beach Buggy Rolling Chassis Help / Axle gaiters, again!
« on: October 03, 2020, 11:21:37 AM »
I replaced tge axle gaiters a while ago, but I'm not at all happy with the fit of the circular clips at each end. Icm going to remove them and use the previouly fitted jubilee style ones.
So, what's the chances of being able to do this without draining the box?
I'm guessing perfectly doable if I want my garage floor covered in box oil, otherwise don't try to cut corners.  Am I correct?

Beach Buggy Engine and Exhaust Help / Enough bowden tube bend?
« on: September 27, 2020, 03:16:38 PM »

Getting a bit of judder occasionally setting off in first. Box front mount looks OK and is tight as. Thought I'd got enough bowden bend, but maybe not.
Thoughts?
Thanks

Got to ask, why Splinter?

Gotta be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reference. Splinter was a rat.

Welcome. I guess you from the comments here, and the photos from your trip, you were in Blue Pearl (Moon, Monday, whatever  :D ) and presumably The Mystery Machine too.
Look forward to meeting you at some time.

That looks good and great to see you getting some miles in. I think I heard you or did you fit an exhaust?  ;D ;D ;D

Do you think an exhaust willl help? :D
Yes, borrowed a pair of cannons for now. Will get a merged exhaust made soonish.

I'm not very good at keeping this thread up to date.
Since the last update I've replaced the engine with a rebuilt 1776 item from Farmer Rob. Painted up some new tinware, and added twin carbs.
Been for my first real drive with the new engine today, out to Skipton and back. Knocked 50+ miles of the running in process. Happy days.

Beach Buggy Engine and Exhaust Help / Re: Cracked starter solenoid
« on: September 09, 2020, 09:06:58 PM »
The plastic cap holds the main power connectors, so sooner or later it will break more and fail or the wet will get in and corrode the connections. So are you good or do you need another one?

Rob

I'll just run the spare Rob.  ;-)up

I am sure I will have a solenoid somewhere, just a bit busy at the moment; I will check later for you, I'll only want postage money for it

Robv

I've put a spare starter on, so not a major issue.  I was more wondering if it would still work.
Not worth trying really I suppose.

I cracked the plastic end cap of my starter solenoid.
Options?

Parts Wanted / Exhaust to clear twin carbs.
« on: September 03, 2020, 09:12:16 PM »
Got a new motor with twin carbs but neither my cannon nor merged exhsussts will clear the carbs sufficiently. I plan to get a new exhaust made, but need something to put me on for a couple if months.
Anyone got anything suitable and cheap? (don't want to spend a small fortune for just a few weeks use.)
Thanks.

Beach Buggy Electrical Help / Fuel pump wiring.
« on: September 03, 2020, 06:18:17 PM »
Wirung in an electric fuel pump, which seems straight forward enough, one wire yo ground and a feed which I'm planning to do from the same feed as the coil.
Any issues so far?

I'm also wondering about putting a switch in to act line of security, working on the buggy not getting far if the buggy were to be hot wired but the pump not be switched on.
I'd wire the switch to a relay, and have the relay provide the power to the pump.
Any issues there?

Any thoughts pro/con this idea would be welcome.  ;-)up
Thanks
