As above 4 screws for the indicator switch into the column and a pair of seat belts with stalks rather than the beetle type strap to the tunnel.

Members Buggies / Beam buggy safety refurb.
« on: April 19, 2019, 07:14:33 PM »
Had to postpone Amy's beetle complete refit for a while until I can start lifting and straining again but this turned up as an easy job as the underside and running gear look good so a slow refurb.

was blue then black metal flake followed by a thick red, however the laqeur had not bonded to the black and the seller had poured boiling water on the red and it fell off in places. Tub is good but will need stripping back to blue completely to find a way forwards.

You can see why IVA and SVA came out.
Drivers seat mounting 12mm threaded rod with no washers or spreader plates to secure the plywood to the pan and 4 X 8 mm bolts with no washers to the seat.

Passenger seat had 8.8 10mm bolts although only 2 through the pan but 3 X 8mm bolts with washers.

Fuel filler hose had a 90 degree kink and the vent hose was sealed with  masking tape hidden under the dash

Full harness belts fitted and indicators on far left of speedo near 2 switches wired to make headlamp dip/main and side all on 1 fuse so unreachable for the driver when strapped in unless he was an orangutan.

And a wiring loom down each side of the pan, one the original beetle with extras the other home made.

one good part is the bare inner steering column support but this may need to go to fit indicator switch and outer column.

How not to mount harness belts just through the fribreglass and all 3 ends to one bolt.

This could be a long job due to engine lifting and straining, thinking my body is telling me to stop lifting long blocks onto and off the workbench, may need mechanical aids for any future lifts.

Events, Cruises and Gatherings / Gloucester Retro Saturday Aug 24th
« on: April 01, 2019, 01:14:19 PM »
A gentleman passed a form on at the NEC and it has now landed here via the post office delivery system.

So here it is  https://www.gloucestergoesretro.com/

Thinking it will need individual applications as they want a photo with it, may be a 60's street entry so IBW folks can go as hippies unless you want to do a 70's theme if we are accepted.

I will not be there as it is Twinwood Festival weekend.

A list of interested folks and 60's or 70's preference so a way forwards for application forms can be sorted out so you all end up in the same time street together..

VW Parts For Sale / 1641 barrels and pistons
« on: March 30, 2019, 08:31:10 PM »
removed due to engine upgrades and now surplus, done about 6 thousand miles from new were a cheap cast set, slight scoring on the piston skirts from slap but were running fine. will be ok for a cheap upgrade to an engine or to repair a damaged 1641 but not the best quality for a high revving performance build.  60 plus postage can take to stoneleigh in May

There has been talk of just going away to the Peak District or Paignton again for a weekend so with Hazel moving NEWS we have finally grabbed a weekend as a few have already put it in their employers holiday book..
Common End Farm near Ashbourne Derbyshire is willing to host us at 18 a night for 2 on grass or 10 for singles with no hook up 21 with 6 amp hook up>

This is not an organised weekend so bookings will be direct to the camp site all we need is a list of folks so we can give the owner a list of interested parties to check off who has booked and paid to keep us all together when pitched. Arrive Friday or Saturday.

Some lovely roads and scenery for a cruise out and some nice towns to visit.

A list
The Snoopys may be hook up if we take the caravan as well.

I have heard nothing from them as yet after we applied for it and thinking I am normally getting organised December time, so if enough buggy owners are interested I will chase up to see if we have been accepted or dropped next year as they do get over subscribed  ( the advert states a exhibitor list will be available soon ). Your buggy needs to be put on the stand around noon on thursday and is allowed out about 5.30 on the sunday.

buggy on display gets 2 entry passes for all 3 days and a free car park ticket all for about 11 towards the required insurance.

Who is interested please list below.

Just had the paperwork through 4 per day but have until april to get any entry list in for Ragley could do Ragley Sunday as it is the main day and D in the M on the Saturday as that will be busy guessing 5 on the gate.

Beach Buggies For Sale / the GP swb is available and need it gone
« on: July 11, 2018, 07:35:08 PM »
correctly registered as a GP beach buggy in 1974 using a 1957 floor pan, now with a 72 transmission and brakes, front axle has 65-66 wider brakes fitted. all new brake hydraulics fitted and shoes n clips etc are as new, new correctly shortened brake cables fitted.
brand new Nankang 205/60 X 14 front tyres and 225/60 X 15 rears also has a set of banded rims 7 X 15 with tyres with it.
1300 twin port motor with progressive twin choke weber and silenced dual cannons.
Mazda mx5 seats and new seat belts, rear bench seat.
All new wiring looms and blade fuse boxes, the new fuel sender fitted is erratic at best so it has a calibrated dipstick.
drives well with a bit of noise transmission  due to a solid front gearbox mounting.

a solid buggy that could be improved and personalised or used as it is. starts and runs well I have done a couple of hundred miles in it. MOT tested in june but now mot exempt if you want.
no weather gear.
loads of spares for the rear lights
indicator self cancel is inop with the steering wheel boss but is has a audible warning fitted along side the light so you know they are on.
DVLA say they have processed the change from PLG to historic today so the log book is on it's way.

more photos in the members buggy section under the GP flinstone buggy so 4000 for a drive away buggy all correctly registered and legal
