I think if I was 'wifey' I'd be looking for another car, because I can't see her getting anywhere near this one the way it's going.   ;D

Beach Buggy Engine and Exhaust Help / Re: Head re-torque
« on: April 04, 2021, 07:57:08 PM »
Mine were definitely on the loose side on 1 & 2,  I did wonder and took the rocker shaft off last week and found the lower ones were slacker than ideal so I'm pleased I re-visited them.

on a type 3 simples on a nicely painted beetle cooling system you will need the fan shroud up enough to get the top tin end raised without damaging the paint

👍

Beach Buggy Engine and Exhaust Help / Head re-torque
« on: April 02, 2021, 07:27:41 PM »
Hi guys, my cylinder heads need a re-torque and I'm thinking that because I have twin carbs this should be do-able without dropping the engine.
Carbs/manifolds off, cylinder shrouds off, rocker shafts off. Re-torque, all back together, valve clearences set, jobs a goodun.
£10 says I'm forgetting something obvious.....as per normal.
Thoughts?
Thanks.

Are you trying to put people off Dave, or is that just one of your fantasies sneaking into the public domain? 😜😮😂

Beach Buggy Body and Chassis Help / Re: fuel tank fixing
« on: March 11, 2021, 01:03:08 PM »
brilliant - i have got the flimsy foam rubber seal / gasket but was wondering if maybe something a bit thicker would be better ....

Do an ebay search. For the love of me I cannot remember the proper term for this stuff. It`s a closed cell high density sponge material cotton re-inforced on the adhesive side. Comes in varying thickness and widths..  I am near the end of the roll I use with just about 18" left. Just need to get the grandkids to school and will see if I have another roll/part roll and if I have you can have it.

Neoprene?

Never knew it existed but it looks an interesting place and not to far, would be a good stop on the cruise.

It sort of doesn't exist. It's a new museum which hasn't opened yet due to covid. Was due to open last year, but they have started posting info on FB again and hope to get going this year.

The "Great British Car Joirney" museum is nearby and was due to open last spring/summer. With any luck they'll get the doors open this year.

Most of my booze is methanol based. may be why I'm blind.

Could explain why old blokes pipes get leaky too!
