VW Parts For Sale / Folding Garage
« on: April 16, 2021, 07:13:03 PM »
Anyone interested in a full size folding garage for stupid cheap money?
It is a Cover Systems one that easily fits my LWB in.
The cover is still waterproof but showing its age a bit, a few repairs to small rips from driving over it and being a bit ambitious trying to squeeze past it against the wall and it is faded but it's doesn't leak.
I don't have any photos of it up i don't think but i will have a look later, the one shown is from the makers site and is the same but cover is brownish.
It is already down, cover can be gotten out to inspect and all frame work is galvanised so not rusting and all marked A-A, B-B etc for easy assembly.
You'll need a van or fair size estate car as it's a heavy base.
See the link http://www.cover-systems.co.uk/car-covers/carfoldinggarages.htm for more info.
Gale force wind, snow and rain this stands up to the lot.
Selling as moving to a double garage and not wanting to either cart this or store it so first 50 collected takes it.
Collection from NR10 area close to Norwich airport.

I'm after a set of either weber 40 IDF's or Dellorto 36DRLA's for a type 4 motor build. Looking for the whole lot, manifolds and linkage ideally but will be open to either carbs or manifolds as separates. Let me know what you have.

I'll also be needing an exhaust for it too so looking for a side winder type system if you happen to see any hen's teeth.........................

Thanks Chris.

Beach Buggy Rolling Chassis Help / Wheel wobble HELP
« on: August 02, 2020, 10:56:43 PM »
As some of you will know i've had a massive headache of trying to diagnose and cure wheel wobble on my buggy. It has sort of always been there but seems more evident now and it needs to go as shakes the car so much now i can't see out of the rear mirror and i can see the wings vibrate as i drive it.
I've rebuilt the beam with bushes and oe bearings but used the same torsion arms, a bit of wear on them but not massively worn and feel secure in the beam.
New wheel bearings.
Camber nuts with markings forwards and tracking is now 1mm toe in and made no difference
set of caster shims in
New tyres and checked and balanced this weekend although some run out was present in one, deemed not bad by the tyre guy.
So here i am chasing the problem not knowing where to go next
I was driving it yesterday, same 10 mile straight line route but increased and slowed my speed to see if it made any difference and i find at 50-55 i get this regular sort of wobble/vibration which seems to appear at a regular interval and gets worse as i go faster, not so when i slow down, which would indicate its from a rotating part. The drums were new 5 years ago and probably not done more than 3000 miles and new bearings in a month ago, all checked yesterday and fine which brings me to what to check next?
A friend of mine is lending me a pair of alternative wheels to check for bent rim on mine but i also can feel some play in the left when i pull on the wheel. Seems to be around the ball joint ,which is new, going in to the camber adjuster but it's in pulled up tight and i can also see some flexing of the arm to the steering rod, only slightly but no play like it on the drivers side. Worm spindle or adjuster nut?
Really at a loss now and it's getting to the point of thinking of getting rid of it because its just not enjoyable anymore.
I'm not a dummy and can usually find problems and mend it but this is really testing me now.
I am trying to get different opinions on what it could be, what to check and how as i'm just blind now to the wheel and nothing else seems possible. Could it be play in the torsion arms where it fits in to the inner bush as new bush old arm? Worn camber adjuster or spindle recess?
I can see the outer of the drivers tyre as i drive and i can't see any deformation so would it be worth swapping fronts so i can see the other wheel?

Beach Buggy Engine and Exhaust Help / Push rod tubes out again
« on: July 23, 2020, 07:29:34 PM »
Well after fitting the so called wonder tubes that Syngear sold me, the ones that don't leak but are  ;D ;D ;D I have now been sent a set of replacement seals and springs I have to change.
Question is as they are spring loaded and i don't need to remove the heads and not started it for a week, will i still need to drain the oil from the engine?
I'm think no but thought i'd ask and see what the general opinion is.

Beach Buggy Engine and Exhaust Help / Engine venting
« on: May 26, 2020, 06:53:08 PM »
I'm running twin carbs and k&n filters on the buggy and getting a bit of vapour in the oil filler vent, which i have a tube on and its exits under the car to the open air.
I have a fuel pump blank as running an electric pump that has a tapped outlet on it.
Would it be a good idea to drill that out and vent it to a catch can along with the oil filer outlet or should i drill and fit fittings to the air filter tops and vent both to those or just leave it as it is?

Beach Buggy Rolling Chassis Help / adjustable spring plates advice please
« on: February 03, 2020, 06:41:32 PM »
I'm going to fit adjustable spring plates to the buggy in the near future so was after some advice before i begin.
I'm ok with all parts of the job as dropped my previous buggy a spline or 2 to take off the camber but what i don't know with the adjustable plates is, what position do i need to have them to start? Do i need to adjust the plates so they are dead straight like the ones i take off and set same angle as they came off and then adjust the screw to get the ride height as i like it? Does that sound correct? Obviously with new rubbers installed.

Beach Buggy Rolling Chassis Help / Dropped spindle ID
« on: June 25, 2019, 12:49:17 PM »
I have an unused pair of dropped spindles in the garage that i bought to use on my buggy but instead went for adjustable beam. For the life of me i can't remember if they are drum or as i suspect disc brake ones. Is there a way of telling the difference so i can get them sold?

Beach Buggy Engine and Exhaust Help / Jetting question
« on: May 20, 2018, 11:18:51 AM »
My buggy has a Microgiant built motor in it. It was originally a 1300 on twin 36 dellorto's in a hill climb car but as they left the rear cover off of it the 36's were trashed. Over time i've changed it to a 1641 and it now has twin solex p40's on it. I've been trying different jets in idle and got it running lovely now with 57.5 jets. I'm just trying different main jets now and been from 132.5 which was too lean, 135 which ran ok but now put 137.5 in. It runs very well, no hesitation or splutter but other than the plugs going soot black and it bogging down, how can i tell when it's over jetted or is that about it??
