[So who fancies kicking off another Carnival in our brightly coloured buggies?]

A co-organiser of the  Shrewsbury Carnival in Shropshire has been in touch with an invitation and I personally think it would be a great day out!

"Hi Hazel. I am a member of Shrewsbury LGBT group and a co organiser of our float for Shrewsbury Carnival in Shropshire. We are are regular and well recieved winners of the transport category. We are on the look out for some beach buggies to lead our "Holiday themed "parade Saturday 13th June.  We wondered if any of your members would like to join in, You dont need to be LGB or T just LGBT friendly... we are known for our "up beat friendly lively parades" with big soundtrack within the family friendly Carnival prosession. We are also joined by various local charities eg shropshire youth parliament, SAND, Victim support and shropshire rainbow film festival. There is oportunity to join in the atmosphere and show off your vehicles in the town park before and after. It would be great if you could join us."

So who fancies kicking off another Carnival in our brightly coloured buggies? 

The Shrewsbury Carnival Parade leaves the Quarry Park Shrewsbury at 2pm on Saturday 13 June.



I have asked if they know of a campsite near to the location where we could stay if anyone fancies making a weekend of it.

So, for anyone wanting and excuse to get out in the buggy that weekend, here's one  Us Midlands folk could meet at the the usual pub and travel up in the morning along the scenic A roads up there...

I reckon if a campsite could be found that you may well get a lot of interest for this

Could make for a good (and new) weekend 

When looking for pubs with campsites in the past I found a few suitable for a buggy weekend up there  so if enough people are interested, I'll try dig out and chase up somewhere for us to camp

This is my neck of the woods as my parents still live there and I was brought up there, so I know the area well. The Shrewsbury carnival has been going ages as I remember it as a child, it was always a good event.

Well I can't deny it would be a bit of a journey for me. But if I'm able to make that weekend, I could well be up for it

Cheers Dav! Would be useful to have some help, maybe a cruise could be on the cards too 

I know of a pub with campsite about 4 miles from where we have to meet to kick off the Carnival, I will give them a call first. It seems the buggers prefer to stay at a pub than an actual campsite. Will see what they say and let you know.

Could I offer an alternative suggestion of a Cruise on Sunday instead ?

Pack tents - cruise out - find suitable eatery for sunday lunch and then all bugger off back home ?

Good suggestion, the reason I say before the Carnival is because I am having trouble finding a pub with a campsite in Shrewsbury. Seems a few have stopped allowing people to camp at their pubs, so I got the hint and started to look a little further afield- south of Shrewsbury since Davy has said that area would be better for a cruise.

Peter at the Halfway House Inn south of Shrewsbury is happy to have us (but was concerned about us being boy racers/up all night being rowdy). WV16 5LS
It is a little way from where the carnival is set to be but there are some nice roads out that way - hence why I thought of incorporating the cruise on the same day as we go up to the carnival. There are caravan/camping sites around that I could look at if you would prefer.


The prices for staying at the Halfway House Inn is as follows:
Camping at the Halfway House Inn is £8 per adult, £4 per child a night
Electrical hook-up £3 per night per tent
Caravan pitches are £18 per night

There are a number of rooms available as well if anyone preferred.
Room 21                       Double and two single beds                 
Room 22                      Double and a single bed or a triple.
Room 23                      Double and a single bed
Room 25                       Double or twin
Room 26                       Double,Twin or Triple
Room 27                       Double with twin bunks

All bookings would be done through Peter.


Here's some info I was sent regarding our stay.

"The weekend of the 12^th of June is still available at the moment  and it is possible to mix the accommodation with camping and touring caravan pitches. Please ring with your own card details to reserve your pitch and ask the others to do the same. This only applies to people booking rooms or pitches with hook-ups. There is however a minimum stay requirement of at least 2 nights on all weekends for our accommodation and caravan pitches but I may be able to take the odd one night stay. Any of the cottages or outside rooms are suitable for dogs.

For a two night bed and breakfast stay, our current price for adults and teenagers would be £35 per person per night with full English Breakfast. Younger children would be charged according to their age and which rooms they would be occupying with their parents. The price would drop to £95 per person for a 3 night stay.

BBQ's only allowed if set up well above the grass."

It would be great to get some feedback and let me know if you would like to camp as Peter has asked that I give him a heads up before bookings are made.

It would also be useful to know who is up for being involved in the carnival so I can let them know we are definitely up for it.

Ok well all sounds good to me, happy to kind of go with the flow. So I guess if it's that pub then I guess it's Friday n Saturday nights? Which would be ok, kinda breaks the journey up. So yes, good for me. But have to be realistic, sounds like a great weekend and am keen to make it, but can't commit to it until closer to date with other stuff happening. Sorry I'm not helping much am I?

So on the list put me down as just a provisional.

Yes, I was thinking Friday and Saturday night.

Been looking on the map again, at Shrewsbury and the surrounding area... The Pub I found is quite far from the carnival and is fairly far from Church Stretton which I would like to include in the cruise. Alternatively there are some 'farms' around that offer camping. Again everything looks so far from each other.

If anyone wants to suggest a place to stay it would be appreciated, and if anyone would like to organise a cruise - let me know! I'm looking for a new photo opportunity for NEWS at the moment and feel I should be putting my effort into that rather than taking on another weekend to organise.

Would anyone mind if the cruise I took you on didn't take you back to the 'campsite'? After the Beach Buggy Bash, we had a bit of a cruise on the way back, saying bye as folks needed to turn off, so maybe we could do something like that?

Just over a month till the carnival, what do I tell the pub?  Is anyone planning on camping?

I did try other places to get a better location/price but they've either stopped allowing people to camp or they are miles away from the carnival location.

After speaking to some of the local guys, I think they're just planning to meet up and go for the day.
