1300 MK1 Golf motor

Hi guys.

Please help. I can get a very well looked after 1980 1300 MK1 Golf motor. Will this be too small for my buggy?

I'm struggling to get hold of a proper motor to put in and what VW motor will be the best to fit. The vw motors' spares are very easy to get here.

It would take a lot of work to make it fit, but then I guess you have contemplated that one already

As far as size goes, I have had a 1300 in my Buggy for many years, it has been a very good engine and performance has been good fun. I also tow a large trailer tent as well, and have had no problems.

The 1300 Golf engine is far superior in power and performance to the old 1300 air cooled one, so I don`t see why you should worry at all.

Only thing that comes to mind, if going to all that trouble, surely the 1600 or 1800 Golf engines would also give more power for the same amount of work?

1300 golf should be fine you get an extra couple of thousand rpm no idea of the bhp but hould guess around 70ish so more than a 1600 beetle and In the future you can always go larger if you find a motor 1600 - 2000cc motor.

Thanks guys. Dave, i prepared myself for that and i got it at a steal. Snoopy, thanks, i need that bit of encouragement....lol I think it will be fine but as you said, i can always go bigger...
