Just started the beach buggy up after a long spell 5 months of non starting. I got smoke and some sparks coming out the side of the dynamo.
Its a type 1 1600 twin port 12 volt.
any ideas where to start on what the potential problem is, a Dynamo seems damn expensive.

Check inside for debris trapped in the commutator and that the brushes are clear also no oil spilled on to it

Like Shaggy says first point of call is the brushes also worth checking the output voltage at the battery up to 14.5 volts when revving.

thanks guys, it was very simple and stupid, shims put in the wrong place I put two shims between the first part of the top pulley and dynamo. what a twonk
