OK

The issue is mounting the filter.

I can see 2 options.

1. CB Performance Maxi Pump 2
https://www.cbperformance.com/product-p/1792.htm

2. Flow back too the case with one of the exhaust stud mounts
https://www.coolairvw.co.uk/Item/Shop_by_Vehicle~Beetle_Products~Beetle_Engine_Products~Oil_System~Oil_Filter~Oil_Filter_Head_Mounts/AC115301520/Oil_Filter_Head_Exhaust_Mount_Bracket.html

The concern with the exhaust mount is this will be conducting heat from the exhaust to directly to the filter and heating the oil in the process.  Also the filter hands quite low and could get clouted.

The 'filter pump' setup concern is whether it will restrict oil flow compared to the usual 'out of the pump and back into the engine block main oil gallery setup.

What are peoples thoughts and experiences?
You would rip the sump off before going anywhere near the filter for normal driving, Jaycee do a filter mount, bracket and cartridge set up that puts the filter into the airflow when driving. You could throw rocks (big rocks) at these and not be worried about puncturing it. Not cheap but nor are chips anymore.
