Swanage 12

It's official, please read this :

Swanage 2019
I’ve finally got some details for this year’s carnival so….

Dates are Thursday 25th to Monday the 29th of July for those that can do a long weekend break but anyone is welcome at any time. We will always find some room.

Location Swanage Football club.

Dress as per IBW, Hippy, Flower power, Disco or 70’s

Do not bring your own rain as we will provide it if needed!

Normal rules apply over the weekend but for any first timers here’s a quick summary:
Please keep all camping areas as small as possible.
Tents take priority over any other form of sleeping accommodation in the gated grass area next to the pitch.
All motor homes and caravans are to be kept on the car park in front of the clubhouse.
Please do not be offended if you are asked to move gazebos or Coleman shelters if we need the space for more tentage.
Well behaved dogs are welcome but please keep them off the pitch.
All visible signs of alcohol or empty cans/bottles must be removed for match day on the Saturday.
No emptying of chemical toilets with anything more solid than wet custard into the club house toilets.
After a complaint from the committee last year if you have any broken tents or chairs please take them home with you as some were left which the binmen refused to take.

And that’s about it for the pesky rules!
The weekend will consist of:

Thursday – Early arrivals are welcome.

Friday – Troops arrive, make camp and catch up with long lost Buggiests. The bar will be open and if folks want to do a BBQ I suggest this would be the best night?

Saturday am – Mystery cruise (don’t ask me?), ready to leave the club by 1100 (full tank etc) with a suitable location for a picnic.

Saturday pm – Arrive back at the club for 1700, the bar is open and it’s PARTY night in the clubhouse. If you want and if numbers hit 30 the club are willing to do a buffet? You don’t have to dress up but you know you want to.

Sunday am – Full English in the clubhouse, timings TBC.

Sunday am – Stupid games (TBC)

Sunday midday – Fun show and shine (TBC) more details later.

Sunday 1430 – Form up ready to leave for the Carnival procession, for those that want to depart straight after, you will be able to peel away at the end of the route.

Sunday pm – Relax, fish and chips in town, Sandpit field for some music and beer.

Monday am – Clean up the camping field and depart.

There is also the possibility of an extended stay for those that are interested from Wed 24th Jul to Wed 31st Jul for those that want to enjoy the beautiful Jurassic coast for the week for an impromptu summer break BUT this has yet to be sanctioned by the Football club committee.

Prices:
£7 per adult per night
£2.50 per child per night
£5 per head for the buffet if we want to do 1?
£6 per head for breakfast

I stress that no monies go anywhere but back into the Football club funds, last year we raised over £1200

I’d appreciate a little help this year to not organise the event, I’m happy to deal with the Football club and act as camping warden.

So I’m looking for someone local to sort the cruise or I’ll take you where I want to go again.

Someone to sort the Show & Shine, as we do this as a charity event there are no funds for prizes. Last year Chad and I threw together what we could as a bit of fun so over to you.

Fun games IBW style for Sun am

If in doubt have a look in the previous years posts.

And add your names.
Flags & Kaz - Thur 26th to Mon 30th - 1 buggy - 1 tent - 2 Buffet - 2 Breakfast

It's getting close and looking forward to seeing you all soon,

We are now close to minimum numbers for the buffet so it looks like that should go ahead.

No one has volunteered to do the show and shine this year so that one is doubtful?

I'm happy to sort the cruise again more details to follow.

I've got a couple of IBW style games lined up but would appreciate anymore ideas (that means you have to bring all the kit needed for them)

And finally I'm still waiting for the final confirmation on the extended stay times but should have an answer by the end of the week.

Cheers you all

Please note the following press release from the ferry

The Sandbanks Ferry was withdrawn from service on Friday 12th July following a fracture of one of the main drive shafts. The Ferry has two independent drive systems which consists of diesel engines driving a hydraulic pump. This provides the hydraulic pressure to turn a hydraulic motor which is connected to the drive wheel via a drive shaft. It is one of these drive shafts which has broken. In order to remove the drive wheel to change the broken shaft requires specialist repairers. In order to speed up the whole repair process we have taken the costly decision to have the ferry towed to a suitably equipped repair facility in Southampton to have the work undertaken. It is difficult to put a timescale on how long this work will take, considering the shaft must be specially made, but we estimate that we will be out of service until at least 12th August. We sincerely apologise to all our valued customers for this inconvenience, but can only assure you that we are working as hard as we can to return the ferry to full service as soon as possible.

@Flags

For those of us travelling with RV's / T4/5/6 etc etc, do you want us to even bother trying to get onto the grass bearing in mind the number of tents we are now getting, or should we try and squeeze ourselves into the (preferred) flatness of the car park at the front of the clubhouse from the start?

As long as we leave the flat area for tents, buggies in the normal spot on the hill, motor homes in the car park and trailors in the long grass on the left we should be fine for small campervans to mix Dave.

I'm going to take my van this year to act as camping HQ and stick it in my normal slot next to the gate.

OK guys and girls I have the route and a treat for us all.

We are gate crashing the sold out Moreton village fete, for those that came in 2016 it is in the same location but we are being given our own parking spot to put on a display of the buggies with entrance to the fete. It is being held at the walled garden which we couldn't access last time due to a function. For those Ornithologists amongst you they have a huge country garden. Moreton Church with the Whistler window and Laurence of Arabia’s grave are just round the corner plus the river with ford and picturesque country walks.

Information on the fete is here: https://www.facebook.com/walledgardenmoreton/ but after a chat today I'm looking forward to the ferret roulette and the Guess whose poo! Oh and the BBQ.

The route will follow what we did in 2016 with a few changes which I'll post when I get more time.
After last year’s drenching you will be pleased to hear there is a No Rain Zone been declared for the duration of the weekend.

Hi, looking forward to Swanage12 this year (couldn’t make last one). Certainly up for Saturday & Sunday with my partner Leanne. So 1 Buggy & 1 camper van. Possibly 4 breakfasts. Only horrendous weather to keep us away.
Sounds like a great laugh!
Colin.

BBQ will be outside the club house on Fri night , Jazzy has kindly said he will bring the coals but we ALL need to  fetch something to throw on it, PS, Barman Dave may well open the bar for us and you need to wear something made out of plastic!
On the subject of the barmen, they do it out of love for us lot so if you can afford it please buy Harry or Dave a drink.
