the reg is before the fuel pump

Regulator should be after the pump not before as you are controlling the pressure into the carbs, not restricting the flow into the pump

I believe it should be 1.5 - 2.5 PSI

Regulator sorted , took the fuel reg off all is back to norm (default) did timing still the same, did plugs still the same, checked ht leads and coil, tried to do the rich settings but still no ider why this is still doing the same thing  jerking at constant speed in each gear going to give up soon driving me mad

needs an engine tune up and carbs resetting from scratch.  I am 30 odd miles away and prefer cars here as going mobile I often need stuff that I left at home or could not carry,

basic carb setting is on linkage off to separate them.
idle speed screws out clear of the stop plate then in until they touch + 1/4 turn
mixture screws fully in gently till they stop then out 1.75 turns
then it should start and run
if too slow both speed screws in another 1/4 turn
at this it should be drive ok but need fine tuning on mixture and speed
