You need to see if you have oval or rectangular exhaust ports on the heads as they may have been changed since the engine was new.
The usual suspects kingfishers, volksmagic, heritage etc or custon built by vintage speed at a cost but type 4 stuff is expensive to start with and limited compared to type 1/2

I have a mick housman exhaust made for my type 4 engine 4-2-1 with balanced tube lengths. My engine will rev as high as I allow so no restriction

expensive but worth every penny in my opinion

Thanks Micky, i build exhausts for all shapes and sizes and not just vw and vw based vehicles. I've worked on things like Ferrari GTO's, Daytona Coupe's, Zondas not a lot I haven't worked on really. my build quality doesn't change because of the value of the vehicle just the Price.

Instagram and Facebook Vintage Volkshaus or Hausmann Fabrications if you wanna get in touch.

Mike.

Can I just pass a comment here..... Don`t be fooled into thinking Mike`s work is expensive.. Believe me it is not. I now realise that bending stainless pipe is an art if you want it done properly. Try bending stainless pipe in a standard pipe or tube bender and you will see instantly what I mean. Also... try obtaining, collectors, bends, straight pipe etc form the guys supplying them polished and you will have a bill of hundreds of pounds in the blink of an eye.

Iíve stalled the idea for the moment as looking at moving house and hopefully ending up with a sensible sized garage into the bargain ..... will pick up on this come the spring - until then the buggy will get the odd dry day ride out Iím sure but I am hankering after a little more performance ;)
